Anchorage-area high school students encouraged to apply for the APD-sponsored Pathway to Policing Youth Academy.  Students must be either a junior or senior. During the course of the four-day training, they learn about gangs in Anchorage, cyber-crime investigations, cyber bullying, how APD investigates crime scene, drug cases and serial killers, SWAT and less lethal tactics and how to speak police code. Thirty students enroll each year and now the program has been expanded to two 20-hour courses per year.
